Jessica's Round Robin Quilt

I received the quilt top from Helen just before Christmas.
I have been itching to get started,
Lucky for me the snow storm set it . . .
Everything was cancelled and we were told
to stay inside.
OKAY!!

I added a yellowish border on the bottom
and a green border on the side.

Now it is off to Ellen's house to see what she has in store!

If you want a go at it, let Ellen know and she will forward it on to you.

The Sewing Machine Song.....

Okay, I have a great idea for next holiday season.  We the wonderful members of NYC Metro MOD Quilters must create quilting holiday themed jingles and videos for You Tube and the like.  I have not been able to find any holiday inspired tunes for sewing/quiltings...we must show that we are indeed a modern bunch.   So, we have 11 months to start thinking.   Smiles.  Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday Season to you all.

Quilt Border Thoughts?

Hi all,

I am almost done with the medallion quilt that I brought in for last month's show-and-tell, and I am so happy with the way it is turning out!  I have a bit of a dilemma, though, and I was wondering if you had any thoughts.

Below is a photo of my quilt in its current state (it measures about 70 inches by 70 inches).  Do I stop adding borders and keep it as is, or should I add one more border?  I was planning on adding a dark blue pieced border as the final one, but I like how the yellow border makes the quilt look so "sparkly."  I am tempted to keep it as is and just add a red binding for a touch of color at the edge.  I am worried that a dark blue border may make it too somber, but it might tie everything together.

I'd love to hear any thoughts or advice!  Thanks!

Another trip around

The journey of the Round Robin continues.
Helen came over today and showed me what she's done to it.

I love the confetti~
It's off to Lisa next.  I'm getting the itch to add another round to it myself, but I'll wait..

"I Do" quilt

My second quilt class ever...and the top is "I DONE"...a bit more intricate and complex than I initially thought...This challenged my love of color and not so fondness of plain solids...I used things that read as solids and then had to break down and get some real solids...it was a bit too much, even for my psychodelic tastes...smiles.

lets see if it actually gets finished...not sure how i want to machine quilt it...any thoughts.  I am going to do a strippy bindy with my bits and pieces...

I am also trying to decide if i should do a plan border all around before the strippy binding. hmmm...I shall have to speak to my GGI...and yes I shall make one as well with the lovely orange bulb inspiration...provided the idea can be born during my 15 minutes of play....

Karma!

So I actually debated whether to bring my favorite fabric as that fat quarter for the cutthroat share game at the last meeting- I hadn't seen it for sale in a long time and I never wrote down the SKU# to be able to order it. I even tried contacting the manufacturer to see where I might be able to get it with no luck. I've been hoarding it for about a year. It goes with everything! I almost brought my second-favorite fabric for the game, but decided I better play by the rules...

Then I dropped by JoAnn's this week to try some different thread, and happened to find the ends of two bolts of my fave on the rack! Not only that, but it was on sale!! So I got 6 more yards, at only $3.49/yard, and now I have the SKU# so I can order more. Sooooooooooo happy..... :-)

2 Questions

1. Other than "hot pink" are there other parameters for the additional blocks from the "cheddar challenge"? Should/can they be pieced ... or just solid blocks?
2. Any restrictions on the 81/2 inch half circle block besides solids and colors? Any color scheme plays?

Puzzling Pieces

Someone (sorry... can't remember who) asked for the pattern of my "puzzling pieces" quilts I made for the twins. It's from eQuiltPatterns.com titled Connect the Dots and designed by Liz Schwartz and Stephen Seifert. It's easy and fun.

Jess's round robin

Jess, made this from her scrap bag swap from the October meeting,
and then brought it and asked if anyone wanted to play with it and add on to it...

Andrea took it next and added a few rows, and returned it to the December meeting,

where I, (Victoria) snatched it, and added a few more rows to it...
(and she was worried I'd slash it up!) ;-) NOT!

Who is next?
I will send it on, if anyone wants in , on the next round..

More from the December Meeting

Another great meeting! It's nice to see people whose names I'm finally remembering, and to meet some new folks as well. I know we'd all like to thank Victoria (and her husband and daughter) once again for hosting--she's been so generous to have such a boisterous group descend upon her loft like a quilting tornado.

The front and back of our group strip quilt. There aren't enough adjectives to describe how great this turned out. Another million thanks to Margaret for quilting and binding it!

Here's the back of Jan's first quilt--after she finished hand-piecing the front, she had enough fabric left over that she decided to hand-piece the back as well!

Another pillow top made from Suzanne's grandfather's ties, which are certainly going to be cherished gifts. She has dozens more ties, and hopes to make a quilt in the future.

Nicole asked for input on this bold, graphic quilt. Whatever she decides, this is going to be incredible when it's done!

Helen passed around her super detailed vest so we could all take a closer look!

Margaret showed us this unbelievable quilt top that came out of her 15 Minutes Play work. The thing that's most difficult to believe is that Margaret is fairly new to quilting!

Kim is still working away on her appliqued blocks, each one somehow more beautiful than the last! As we were leaving, she also showed a couple of us some photos of her in-progress grandmother's flower garden quilt--I cannot wait for the show and tell of that finished quilt. It might be a long time coming, but it'll be worth the wait!

Here's the back of my quilting bee quilt. I finished sewing on the binding after the meeting, and I'm so glad to have one project done! So many yet to finish, which is something I know everyone in this group can relate to.

Andrea had shown us this quilt top at the last meeting, and this time she brought it to show us the AMAZING quilting she'd done. Check out those roses on the border! There are also four words quilted around the border. Quite an accomplishment, and sure to be a well-loved gift!

At our last meeting, Jessica had brought a piece she had made from the scrap challenge of the previous meeting, and suggested we pass it around to keep adding to it. Andrea was the first to take it, and she added the long solid pieces along the top and side edges--including a few tiny breaks in the orange, an homage to a portion that Jess included in her section, which had been a scrap in Janet's scrap bag. (Says Jess, "She's the daring one willing to add in 5/8" strips." Indeed!) Who knows what the next quilter, Victoria, will do with it now!

I foolishly believed this was a group of gals too nice and polite to nab their neighbor's fat quarters in our Yankee swap. But quilters know what they like, and they're not afraid to take it! Here's hoping those pieces spark some creativity!
