NYC Mod Bee 2: November Block
I am pleased to announce that the second Bee (or Bee 2) of NYC Metro Mod Quilt Guild is filled and ready to go!
I am so excited to be the November Queen Bee for Bee 2 (even though I way behind in posting!) Here are instructions for my block (packages should arrive soon), in honor of this very festive time of year.
While browsing some blogs awhile back, I found these adorable holiday blocks by From the Blue Chair:
Another inspiration block found on Flickr:
For this month’s bee, I would love to see what you all come up with as tree or ornament blocks. The blocks should depict trees (any kind- wonky, tall, stubby) or ornaments only and you can use any technique you like. Flickr or blogland has some great ideas if you're in need of inspiration.
Blocks should be about 12.5 inches square using the fabrics provided in packet; each bee member will receive roughly 13 different kinds of fabric (you may use as little or as much as you like) and one piece of kona snow for the background.
I can’t wait to see what you all come up with!

Bee Blocks
I finished Jessica's Block.
Very fun and great directions.
Hope you like it Jessica!
I also worked on our solids blocks too.
Can't wait to see how both these quilts come out!
I'll bring the blocks to Saturday's meeting.
See you all then!

OOoops
Marcia Marcia Marcia Derse with a bit of Stephanie Brandenburg
What can I say, I looooovee Marcia Derse's fabric. I didn't even know who she was till one day I saw "MY" fabric on a blog and realized her name. When i took a look, I realized that I had just about every piece from all of her lines.
And My Runner up is Stephanie Brandenburg, who also is responsible for Billie Davids' line.

no big secret from me!
Everyone knows who I love...
JP. Miss Jennifer... Jennifer Paganelli... I've made more quilts and bought more of her fabric then any other... I don't obsess over any other lines, only hers....
Although I drool and buy loads of Marcia Derse fabrics, I have yet to cut into them...
Maybe that's the next questions?
Which fabrics do you buy, pet and refuse to cut?
hehe
That woudl be Marcia's... LOL!
Fabric Designers, what's not to LOVE?
Great subject to discuss . . . fabric designers are such fun to follow . . . not only are they great designers, but from the few that I have met, they are also great, fun people. I have a long list of favorites, and I am sure there is overlap among us. One that first comes to mind is the fabulous Jennifer Paganelli who designs under her label "Sis Boom." I love love love her bright cheerful prints which are all featured in fantastically bright and soul lifting colors. These are from the Pretty Please line. Her website is sisboom.com.
Jennifer has opened her home in Connecticut in the past for an open house sale, where she sells not only her fabrics, but also wonderfully crafted goods that always include lots of glitter, as well as ready-made goods sewn from her fabrics. It is always a delight, and I have never left without finding something wonderful to take home with me, including bags of scraps. Such fun, thank you Jennifer!
Michael Miller's Cotton Couture solid fabric collection
Easy Piecing (my online business) will be selling the Michael Miller solids collection! These are the fabrics we are using for the December challenge. I should have the fabric by the end of December. I'll keep you posted of the arrival date!
(I'm at Quilt Market in Houston with the color card)

Let's get talking about.. Fabric Designers
This week I decided to do an easy topic in hopes of increasing participation..
(It's mid November, I know we're getting busy.)
Please tell us all about your favorite fabric designers.
Share pictures of fabric, bolts, fat quarters or quilts.. what makes you love them? Who do you go back to buy again and again?
I didn't set out to be a designer fabric fiend.. but I do find myself attracted to a few designers even without trying..
Since I started quilting, I've loved Alexander Henry. Not every print, but man, some of them just make me so happy! I could copy and paste some links, but it's more fun if you just browse the website.
And then there's Erin McMorris.
I guess the secret's out, I like leaves and foliage. Scenes of nature, flowers, trees. I wonder if I like it because it's out there, or if it's some deeper level of my aesthetic sense?
So, who does it for you?

MOD Bee November for Jess
Hey Mod Bee members~
I finally wrote up my bee block instructions and will be emailing them to you shortly. This month, I'd like you to make me a Mock Kitchen Windows block!
**NOTE** use the back side of the purplish-blue
fabric, as a solid! I don’t want the
print to show on the front of the block.
I’ll happily accept these blocks at the December guild
meeting, or you can mail them to me.
I finally wrote up my bee block instructions and will be emailing them to you shortly. This month, I'd like you to make me a Mock Kitchen Windows block!
Full Disclaimer—I looked at photos of several quilts made
from Elizabeth Hartman’s Kitchen Windows pattern from her Practical Guide to Patchwork book.
I have not seen the actual book or read the printed pattern. This is what I was able to figure out from
the photos. It is a fairly simple block
and I believe any experienced quilter with a good eye could figure out
something similar and make it without the pattern, which is why I do not feel
bad sharing my version for guild bee use. That said, I also do not feel comfortable
posting my mocked-up instructions on the internet, so I am emailing them to you
instead.
In your envelopes you will find window frame fabric
(purplish-blue) and sashing (kona white).
Please use your own stash to fill in the windows. Medium to large scale prints work great. Choose
fabrics that give good contrast to the window sashing. Feel free to add a pieced block as one of the
focus patches through the “window” frame.
If you have questions, please let me know~
Thanks everybody!

Let's talk over coffee?
I know it's a little last minute, but if anyone is available this Saturday and would like to come out to Long Island, the Evening Star Quilt guild of Mineola is having their annual show this weekend, and I'd love to get together to see the show and then go for coffee/lunch afterwards. Anybody interested?
I was planning to be at the show around 11 am Saturday, and head to the Panera on Rt. 25 (5 mins from the show location) for coffee around 12:30?
Show details are in the link below, but a bit about the guild--
it's large (100 members?) and the show should have between 50-80 quilts. They're pretty traditional, but there's always someone trying something new, so it's worth a look. They have two small rooms of vendors too. I thought it would be nice to see the quilts together and then share our impressions.
http://www.eveningstarquilters.org/id6.html
(email me [jessunderquilts at yahoo dot com] and I'll send you my cell # for meet-up details. I may be able to pick up 2~3 people from Mineola station on the LIRR..)
