Summer Sewing

Anyone interested in a little outdoor hand-stitching?

I propose a Central Park meet up this Saturday, July 7 at Strawberry Fields starting at our usual Saturday morning time of 10 AM.  Hopefully it won't be too hot that early, especially in shady Strawberry Fields.  Comment or email (radianthoneyquilts (at) gmail (dot) com) if you are interested and we'll make a firm plan.

Hope you are getting lots of air-conditioned sewing in this summer and have a great 4th!

Lucky 13 Bee Blocks May & June

Kati's block, I chose a wonky churn dash, my first attempt at this design. I really like the colors against the background we got.

Laura's block: I don't do alot of paper-piecing so it takes me awhile to get started, but after the first square was done, I was on a roll!

Hope you like your blocks, they are in the mail!

Finally got the pieces together going the right way! Lots of fun, and I learned a lot. Hope it ended up the right size! Thanks.

Sewing Advice from Singer

Just read this on Karen's Sew Many Ways blog and couldn't resist passing it on to you all.   Karen says it's from a 1949 Singer Sewing Manual.  Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

July Mod Bee 2

Hi Lucky 13 Bee Members ...

During the month of July I would like you to make 2 rows of eight 3.5" HST blocks for a top
that I have just started.

My goal is to make a simple quilt with a light summery feel.  I have mailed directions and
white fabric squares.  Happy Sewing!  Many Thanks!

July's Modern Bee Block

July’s Modern Bee Block

Hi all you busy bees!  I have chosen Victoria’s Triangle Galore Block for my Bee.
Your packages went out in the mail yestersday.
I have enclosed the pattern, you will need to make 8 copies to complete the paper pieced star.  This block took me about an hour to complete.  I have given you purple triangles for the corners, please use these there.  There is plenty of fabric to complete this block, and you may keep the leftovers for your stash if you would like.  You may add your own fabric too if you wish, just keep them bright and colorful, no solids or black and whites.

Please make sure you keep a quarter inch seam allowance and shorten your stitch length so you can remove the paper easily.  No need to trim them, I will do that when they arrive.

Here is the link to Victoria’s tutorial:

Have fun and thanks so much for helping me make this quilt!

Cherrywood quilt

From Cherrywoods:

THANK you for sending us this wonderful quilt that uses ALL of our 8-step gradations. It filled one whole end of the booth! And here is PROOF that your mother came in to introduce herself. How sweet!

Long Overdue Star for Suzanne

Mod Bee: Suzanne

A Centennial Star for Suzanne, with a twist, a lot late. Really love these colors, and that grey especially has such great texture. Can't wait to see how you put all these different stars together, it should be a really dynamic quilt!

Starry Eyed!

Here is the Bee block for E, the Star of Bethlehem. That this resembles anything remotely like a star is nothing short of its own Christmas miracle! Although it is far from perfect, I am happy to report I am no longer terrified of mitered joints.

NYC Mod Bee for June - Kimberly's NYB Blocks

Here's my 2 NYB blocks for Kimberly, our June Queen Bee - I've made Blocks 0 and 7.

Haven't done paper piecing before and admit to being slightly nervous, but didn't need to be - I got together with Maren and we did a trial run with muslin first and once you get the hang of it, it's actually surprisingly easy.  Also hadn't worked with batiks before and the colours are just so vibrant that you can't do anything but love them.  I took photos and notes as I went along which are available on my blog.

I'll send them on their way to you tomorrow Kimberly and can't wait to see your finished quilt :)

Laura's Pezzy Block

This block was such fun to make!
Fun to search for summery prints to go with the pezzies
and
fun to try a new block.
Based on the blocks already posted,
I think you will have a beautiful quilt!

June Block Challenge

Hi all.... many of you brought or sent in your June challenge blocks.... If you still have one to offer, please send to me sooner than later, so I can start to sew them all together.  I don't want to leave out anyone who's got a block.... and is it possible to comment here to let me know if I already have your block (most didn't have names attached and Victoria would like to include them in the label).  Thanks
Jody

NYC Mod Bee - May and June Blocks!

I just finished the NYC Mod Bee blocks for May and June, and I wanted to share them with you!

May:  Cross and Crown / Golgotha block for E's bible quilt.  This was fun to make and an interesting puzzle to piece together (no instructions given on the website).  I look forward to seeing the finished quilt!

June: New York Beauty block for Kimberly's quilt.  I had never made a New York Beauty block before, and it was a definite paper piecing challenge!  We used the patterns from the Quiltalong that is going around online.  Kimberly gave us beautiful batiks to use...love them!

I also made two other Bee blocks for the South Florida Modern Quilt Guild and wanted to share them.  Great possibilities for future NYC Mod Bee projects!
You can find the free pattern HERE.

Opposites Block and Children of Israel Block

Hi everyone, I'm new to the Guild so I'm only now getting round to posting my May Bee Block and June Challenge Block photos.

This is my June Challenge 'Opposites' Block made using Dear Stella Paisley Doodle in Grey and Dear Stella Solids Blue.

And here's my May Bee block for E, called 'Children of Israel'.

After creating this block I appliqued and free machine sewed the basket in the bulrushes to represent the story of Moses.

Looking forward to finally meeting you all in October :)
