Just back from the UK and itching to get back to my beloved Bernina, I really enjoyed putting these together. Amazingly I didn't have many fabrics with white backgrounds but hope I've managed the "light summery feel"!
Let me know if anyone is around for a meet up.

Lucky 13 Bee for August
Autumn is my favorite season. I love the different colors, shapes and smells of the leaves as they change and mature. So I thought, for my month (August), I would ask you all to make a leaf block that fits your experience of autumn leaves. Please use some of the supplied hand dyed fabric either for its color or the leaf image, in whatever style you like: traditional block, wonky, free form or literal. Add autumn colors from your stash, or dye something yourself. You can thread paint, appliqué – any method or style you want to do. I hope to end up with a quilt that includes a “community of leaves” not just my own vision. Your block can be any size, square or rectangle, preferably one side being at least 8 inches.
The dye used is Setacolor and is available from Dharma Trading if you are interested in trying it yourself. This dye is heat set (sun and/or iron), no gloves are needed, and can adhere to almost any fabric. If you need extra pieces of the pre-dyed fabric, just let me know. These instructions and one 10x10 (approx) piece of fabric (1/6 of the above picture) will be in the mail to you tomorrow.
I look forward to the infinite variety of your blocks as much as I always look forward to the glorious colors and shapes and smells (and cooler weather!) of the Fall.

Lucky 13 Bee
Progress
So far this has been both interesting and tedious.
Interesting because of some poor fabric choices on my part.
Those have been replaced ...
and tedious because I thought I could just sew strips randomly
and there wouldn't be any nearby repeats.
Not so!
So far I have received blocks from Jody, Laura, Naomi Tina and Daniela.
Each long strip has one of your half-square blocks embedded.
Maybe if you enlarge you can find it.
Thanks!

Margaret's Lucky Bee
Here's your triangle strips, Margaret... will get them in the mail soon.
Funny how simple this is (should be) and yet I managed to sew an entire strip going in the opposite direction! Fixed now. .... just proves I'm not so good at following directions.

Luck 13 Bee Blocks
Catching up on my long due blocks ~
For Kati, Friendship Stars - this was inspired by Lisa's dancing Friendship Stars on 15 Minutes.
Friendship Star |
For Jody - this Carnival Star is 10x brighter in person. I took a Star class many years ago with Margit Echols (sp?) and this was one of my favorites.

Both were fun to make. Hope you like them!

July Bee Block for Lisa
Here is my bee block for Lisa using Victoria's Triangle Galore block. I also had some trouble getting it to lie flat but I was able to smooth it out on my design wall and it seemed fine. I love the paper piecing blocks we've been doing lately. Lisa, I think you're going to have a beautiful quilt.

HSTs for July
I was surprised how many on-white prints I actually had in my tiny little stash! There are fabrics from Lizzy House, Amy Butler, 30s repro prints and again, scraps from the meeting scrap table. Hope you like them, Margaret!

More bee blocks!
In the spirit of catching up on summer sewing, I'm also catching up on summer posting!
Here's the block I made for E for May for the MetroMod bee....she assigned me this David and Goliath block. I had a lot of "fun" with the Y-seams on this one......! But it was good challenge
Then for June, Kimberly asked for New York Beauties. Aren't these fun batiks? I couldn't resist fussy-cutting the green-and-yellow dots for the corner arc.
July's Queen Bee is Lisa. I had a great time making Victoria's Triangles Galore block out of these Kaffe prints......
That's purple in the corners--looks more blue in the photo!
Hope you all enjoy your blocks!
And enjoy some summer sewing!!!!

More Triangles Galore for NYC Mod Bee
I just finished Lisa's July Bee block, and I really enjoyed making it. The paper piecing was fast and easy, the fabric choices were amazing (love Kaffe Fassett, especially that indigo blue print!) and the completed design looked beautiful!
I can't wait to see Lisa's finished quilt!

Triangles Galore for Lisa
This was a fun block to make! I really like the precision of paper-piecing and the way the finished block looks. I'm sure it's going to be an amazing quilt. It seems like I'm really on top of things by getting this done so quickly, but I was looking for some sewing distraction while my husband (a volunteer firefighter) was called away to a grass/brush fire threatening a residence...and it's 102* outside today. It's been so hot, and the drought has caused several communities to cancel their fireworks displays and ban fireworks sales for fear of fire.
I finally got these blocks pieced together yesterday. My students pieced the log cabin blocks during exploratory class last fall. Setting them was no simple task since none were the same size or square. I think it will be raffled at the school carnival this fall. I'm sure there are parents that will want it since their kids had a hand in making it. I can't wait to see it all quilted. I'm thinking that a scrappy, colorful binding would look great.
Here's the back - Students will sign their names in the white around the block. I hope it doesn't look terrible that I ran out of the lighter gray.
