A Dresden Plate for Brian

I decided to go traditional this time.
I haven't really played around with this block much,
so I think you have to start with the original before you can
jump to the abstract!

Brian, I hope you like it.
You can see more of how I put this together here.

February Bee Block

Hi Fellow Bee-mates,
Whew! I thought I was so smart, starting to plan for my month as Queen Bee over the holidays.  I had some ideas I was really excited about.....then today when I realized it's almost February, I couldn't remember a single one! Guess they weren't that good:-)

Sooooooo.......I found this Celtic Twist block online.  I think it will be fun to interpret in some bright scrappy, tonal colors and prints.  This is a 12.5" block. The pdf instructions can be found here:
http://www.mccallsquilting.com/patterns/details.html?idx=13782

 - Background: I'm sending a light grayish print
 - Twisted "rings": Please use solids or prints in 4 shades of any one color (pinks, oranges, greens, turqs, browns, purples or whatever you have!.... as long as there is a good contrast with the background)

Just follow the placement of the 4 shades on the instructions.

One of my favorite parts of this Bee is everyone's different color/fabric choices. I'd love for each block to be unique and am not concerned about matching anything, so I'm asking you to use fabric from your own stash for the twisted "rings".  If anyone doesn't have much stash and would rather I send fabric for the rings as well, just email me: kimhryn@gmail.com.

Thanks!
Kim
P.S. I'll bring these on Saturday to the guild meeting, then mail out the rest on Monday

My dog ate my Dresden and the bear claw stopped him.

Okay so I had to make sure I finished two bee blocks so... I worked on Chris's first. she had great instructions, so i didn't have to think. but i did try to get the birds to fly in various directions.

and for Brian...Chrissie had a jump on my initial concept. so i decided to sort of deconstruct the block. I made it way too big and thought okay lets pare it down to size. however, after my first snip, i got happy and decided to chop it up and make it incomplete...so Brian, my dog (which i dont have) ate your Dresden plate.

Hope you enjoy.

New MOD member! ;-)

Jessica gave birth to Jack on Monday....9 lbs, 6 oz.!!!! Congrats Jessica and family!!!

I ❤ Dresdens

This was a fun block to make, and I'm so pleased with the result.  It makes me remember just how much I adore Dresden blocks.  The variety of fabrics that Brian sent was awesome.  Also, the template included was much appreciated.

Lucky 13 Bee

Hi... I've heard from some of you who would like to continue or join our bee.  In no particular order I have Daniela, Emily, Mandy, Nicole G, Theresa, Naomi, Rossanna, Christina M, Jody, (possibly Margaret) so far.  If you've mentioned you want on and I've left you off, please let me know.   I do not have addresses and/or e-mails for several of you, so I'll need to get that too.   We can have a total of 12 -- but actually we're called Lucky 13 because we started with that many, so there's some flexibility.
At February's meeting, I'll take names and preferred months for being the "queen."  If you know when you'd like to be the queen but can't make the meeting, let me know that.

A reminder of the "rules"....
1.  only your first name and blog address will show on blog
2. only sign up if you're willing to make a 12 month (or 13) commitment.... if you have to drop out, please find a new member to take your place.
3. the "queen" bee will send out fabric to the other members BEFORE his/her month and will specify if the blocks should be made only with provided fabric or can be augmented with stash fabric.
4. each member will make one block for the queen in whatever size is requested (12.5", 9" squares, 6x9 rectangle, etc.)  Any member should feel free to make an extra block if she/he desires.
5. after blocks are completed, a photo should/could be posted on blog and the block sent off to the queen.  Each member is responsible for postage (but it usually only cost $1 to send a block)
6. members are responsible for staying current with blocks.  If you're having trouble getting blocks done within time constraints, please let the queen know asap.

January Bee Block for Brian - Dresden Plate

Brian set what I thought was going to be quite a daunting challenge for our January Bee Block - a Dresden Plate.

How wrong was I?

This was such fun and incredibly easy - if you haven't made one before then you wouldn't think so to look at all the sections would you?!  As always I've written more about making the block over at my blog made by ChrissieD if you want to take a look.

I'll be posting the block off to you tomorrow Brian and thank you so much for pushing my out of my comfort zone and making me learn more new skills :)

Lucky (?) 13 Bee

It seems the Lucky 13 Bee Block has fizzled.  Are there still interested members?  Should we try to re-organize at (or before) the February meeting?  I know there were some drop-outs, but I thought there were enough new members to it to continue.  Anyone?????

Bee Blocks for November and December
