July Blocks for Ellen
Cricket was way too interested in these blocks, so I ended up leaving her in the picture. Loved the fabrics, but, as you had warned, had a tough time keeping everything straight. Hope these are ok.

Staying Caught Up

July
The more I looked at Deidre's inspiration painting, the more I liked it.  I concentrated on the middle section.  The block was made in an improvisational manner similar to the confetti block a few months ago.  I really liked the yellow/gold fabric that was sent, and I wanted to include as much of it as possible into the block.  I just kept adding segments until I ran out of that fabric.

August
I went so far as to name this block - Olive Block *wink*.  I especially like the finished size being larger than normal.  Sometimes, we get stuck in 12-inch block box.

These blocks made for fun Saturday sewing.  On to a new project tomorrow. :)

Ellen's Lucky 13 Blocks

Here are your blocks, Ellen.  They were simple to do and fun.  I didn't mean to have your fabrics on the outside of both, but that's what happened.  I hope they're what you were looking for.

Piecing update...

Here's an update for Jess's Monday Morning Star Count 3. Thanks to a couple of sick days, I've gotten some piecing done on this project:
Since my last post I've stitched 16 diamonds on to the strip I'm working on, and laid out the rest in that strip, and basted a handful of templates.

I've still got long way to go (I'm not even going to try counting right now!), but I will hopefully get more done today. I'm thinking my next step after finishing this strip is to join all three of these strips, so I can reuse the templates on the edges. I'm just not sure the strips are long enough, and I think it might be tricky to join more diamonds to a piece that is more than 4 rows thick, but I'll see!

Sunbonnet Who?

Hi all,
I'm playing catch-up with blocks for my mod bee queens.....!

For May, E asked us to do a modern day Sunbonnet Sue or Sam.  She gave us each a background fabric and a few pieces in a yellow, gray, and white palette.  As soon as I saw it, I thought of this Jay McCarroll brick print in my scrap drawer and making a "graffiti sue."  She may not be the most upstanding citizen, but quite the artist in her own right, don't you think?

I also added a little embroidery for the spray!  Hope you like her, E!

And for June, Kimberly sent us vintage sheet scraps for this pretty block:
I agree with Chrissie D  - this is a fun and pretty easy block to sew, but even when you chain piece, you are back and forth to the iron like a madwoman....and I had my iron right next to me! haha!

Anyway, with the vintage sheets, this should turn out to be an incredibly soft and sweet quilt.....can't wait to see it all together!

July Lucky 13 Bee Block

July Lucky 13 Bee Block

My Bee Block for July is a simple Square in a Square.  The inspiration for this block came from my dear friend Sherry who lives in Buffalo.  When Sherry comes to visit she always brings me goodies like cookies and magazines and fabric!  Recently I was the recipient of a pack of  10” Japanese Indigo  squares and a pack of Kaffe Fasset’s warm, muted striped fabric.  Even though I received them on different occasions, I noticed how well they went together.

The challenge for this month is to make two (2)  9 ½”  Square in a Square blocks using these two fabrics and some solids, or fabrics that read as solid, from your stash.

Fabric and instructions will be on  their way to the Lucky 13 Ladies and to Sherry too!

Happy 4th of July to all!

Confetti block.....at last!

Confetti block.
Pretty easy.
Framing scraps.
Totally. Late.

Hi guys,
I'm posting the confetti block I made for Maren - from our bee in April....oops!
It was a fun puzzle to decide how to put together.  I did enjoy making this block, though it kept getting pushed to the back burner.  It is now on its way to you Maren...hope it fits with the others you received!
