DWR Challenge

At the eleventh hour, here is my contribution. One block, which was much more complicated to assemble that I had imagined. My admiration to all who have made DWR quilts, and Victoria's design.... well, now I really get it!

I call it compass, which is what marriage has been for me. True North, safe travels, all that.

December 7th Meeting Reminder!

We will meet Saturday, December 7th at 10 am - 2 pm.

Hartley House
413 W 46th St, NYC
Between 9th and 10th Aves.
Here's what you should bring:
1.  Your hand sewing supplies: needles, scissors, thread, tiny scraps if you have them.  We have a fun challenge for you.
2.  Your DWR Challenge piece.  We will be voting for "Best in Guild"  and there is a prize!
3.  Block Lotto.  If you want to participate, 6.5" blocks, pieced anyway you want that are "blue."  For every block you enter, you will get one chance on winning the lot.
4.  If you participated in Victoria's 15 min play Mini Amish Challenge, please bring your piece to show, many people have asked to see them in person.
5.  Any fall challenge blocks from the last meeting that you may have taken home or made to add to the collection.  We will lay them out and see how we want to proceed with this quilt.  Those blocks are 12.5"
6.  For a Holiday Swap, 6 pieces of your favorite fabrics, (not necessarily "Holiday") 6" cut selvage to selvage rolled up with a ribbon and labeled with your name.  We will swap these with everyone who wants to participate.  A fun way to add a little pizazz to your stash.
7.  Bring some holiday treats to share with the group.  Maybe  your favorite cookies?  Special family treat?  A nice way for us to celebrate the holidays together.
8.  Bring your lunch and drinks!  We have the room until 2pm!  Let's hangout and enjoy each other's company before the holidays get busy.
9.  One show and tell, there will be a sign in sheet at check in.
10.  As always, the swap table will be present, but please take home anything that doesn't move!
I know that's a lot and we have a jam packed meeting, but it will be fun!!  So looking forward to seeing everyone and seeing what you are all working on!

Kitchen Kitsch

The kitchen fabric reminds me of Seventies wallpaper.  The rickrack completes the look I wanted for this fun little piece.

Entering DWR Challenge

Could someone please help me... trying to enter the DWR Challenge.... I don't have a blog or website and the form asks for my URL link.... Victoria suggested i post on this site and then go from there, but I still haven't figured out how to make the transition.  Not sure what I'm supposed to "copy and paste" for the URL... Any smart computer savvy friends out there who can help me?
Thanks.
Jody

LAUGH!!

Rossanna gave us each an "inspirational" word to include in our bee block for her this month.  She likes calendars that have a new inspiration each month, so she wanted a quilt that did the same thing.
My word was "Laugh."  I love this little girl - some of you may recognize her from my nametag.  I only had a small bit of this fabric, but luckily there was one more little girl for the block!  And pinwheels seemed like just the thing to hang out with her.
Hope this makes you smile, Rossanna!

October 2013 Bee Block for Maria - Story Of You Block

Here's my October Bee Block for Maria - Story Of You:

If you'd like to know more about my 'story of me' leading to my fabric choices for the block as always there's a post on my blog made by ChrissieD :)

Mod Bee 3 October Block for Maria - "Story of You"

I was terrified when I got Maria's package in the mail. I've never sewn curves, and never planned to. When I saw her at Quilters Take Manhattan I was like "I got your envelope... you want me to sew WHAT?!?!?".

Anyway, my initial fear quickly diminished after I read (and re-read) QB's clear instructions and visited the resources she provided. She even made fancy templates for us!

Maria asked that we use fabrics that represent us in some way. I love black & white and can't resist a nice graphic b&w print. But I also love color and the way a hint of color looks when you introduce it to an overwhelmingly b&w scheme. Also pink. And pandas. Who can resist pandas?

Will mail this week. Hope you like it Maria!
