QuiltCon 2015 - Who's Going?

Hi Mods!

Just wanted to pop in to see if anyone else from the guild is attending QuiltCon in Austin this year. If so, what classes/lectures/events will you be attending? Please share in the comments!

For those of you not attending, I will definitely post a recap when I get back!

Our Meeting on Saturday, February 7th . . . .

Yahoo!
After a long break, we are back!
Our next meeting is Saturday, February 7th, 10am -2pm
at the Hartley House.

What have you been working on???  I can't wait to see it.

Here are a couple of things to remember to bring . . . .

Community Blocks for our donation quilts.
Here and here are the links for the tutorial.
Remember light and medium blues for the background.
These blocks go together easily and pack a huge punch!

We are also still collecting the Red and White blocks.

Rachael's blocks for the group quilt.
I am so eager to see how this comes together.

Block Lotto!
This month the block is 8.5" unfinished.
Bright, scrappy and must include navy blue to pull them all together.

A couple more things . . .

Name tag swaps! Are you playing along?
Please bring your partners name tag if you signed up for this swap.

Bring your lunch and hand sewing!

One show and tell.

And new this month, show & help.
We will have a design wall set up for projects you would like feed back on.
Sometimes a different perspective makes all the difference.

Can't wait to see you Mods!
Hope you all weathered storm Juno with ease!

Our Fun Sewing Day!

Saturday we had a sewing day together,
just the way to break up the winter dull drums!

The antics started right away as you can see.
Melanie knows how to get the party started!

We had a nice cozy place to set up shop,
And I really like sewing at round tables!
It's like a dinner party, but better.  :)

Some design figuring. Quilt layering.

Chatting and sewing.  Nothing better in my book.

Blocks for Jennifer

I really enjoyed doing these for Jennifer--our December Queen Bee. I sewed the strips together incorrectly in #3, but then really liked the pattern--so I left it. : )

Lucky Bee - catching up

I'm enjoying playing catch up on these blocks :) Stars for Sandy and HST's for Jenny.

Love the colour scheme Sandy!

I decided not to join these 8" blocks in case Jenny wants to mix things up a bit. They were all put in the mail today. Happy New Year!

Catching Up and Warming Up

Christmas and New Year with family. So grateful for being able to enjoy my parents. Quilting, though, was not part of the equation. Enter 2015! I quickly caught up with my two bees and Rachael's quilt blocks.

For our Lucky Bee, December blocks for Jennifer. I spent too much time trying to fit my 2.5" HSTs into a 4, 8 or 16" block. Why didn't I resize them? Because my brain does not work like that. I ended up having differently sized HSTs, and I like the finished 8" block. I hope you do too, Jennifer! The baby 4" block is for kicks. Some fabric is going back your way.

Lucky Bee's January Queen Jody: So much fun to make these strip blocks, and they get one's color sense going. Good warm up for things to come!

For the Mod Bee, December has Chris as Queen bee. She asked for giant HST blocks and I was assigned the pink/purple palette. I was surprised to find out that my stash lacks terribly in the solid/tone-on-tone department in those colors. A visit to our friends' store, Gotham Quilts, might be in order. Chris, this block, times two, is on the post for you.

Rachael presented the guild with a group quilt challenge. I have seen some blocks already and I think the quilt will be fantastic. I wonder if my top segment should be continuous to the flying geese. Rachael, you can redo the seam if you think so. I ran out of grey, hence the odd shape of the block.

And now, to my quilts! Still working of assembling a very old (4+ years in the making) yellow and white star quilt, and the Tula Sampler, that is feeling very lonely on my design panels. I better go.
See you all in February!

Jennifer and Rachael's blocks

Here are my blocks for Jennifer and Rachael.  I didn't get as complicated as Andrea and Deborah (sorry, but my post holiday brain just couldn't function)... think they'll be a good contrast for the others though... And I think Rachael's quilt will travel all around a room if that line never gets broken!  Can't wait to see what she does with all of them.

Even More Lucky Bee Blocks...

Spent yesterday catching up on my bee assignments!   Here are two blocks with half-square triangles for Jennifer:

Not surprisingly, I got carried away with Jody's assignment.  My stash of strips has reached epic proportions, fed in part by my obsession with the Waste Not, Want Not class at CQ.  So, when asked to make two strippy squares (one 12.5 x 12.5, one 12.5 x 6.5) I ended up with two of each size.  Happy Birthday, Jody!

Happy New Year to everyone and a Happy back-to-school for those of you who have been on winter break!

Lucky Bee blocks for Jennifer and Jody, and Rachael's group quilt block

In anticipation of turning my full focus to a new quilt-on-a-deadline in a week or so, I've finished Jennifer's bee block for December, Jody's bee block for January, and the block for Rachael's group quilt.

First, Jennifer's block - half square triangles of our choice with fabric she provided.

And Jody asked for two striped blocks (one 12-1/2" square and one 6-1/2" x 12-1/2"), incorporating a couple of scraps she sent.  For the larger block, I was inspired by the bright orange fabric she sent (second from the left on the large block). I just went with some of my favorite fabric scraps for the smaller block.

I love Rachael's idea of making the neon strips follow from block to block.

From the scrap table...

I think it was Karen who brought this rather fetching vintage Tweety Bird fabric to the last meeting, but I eagerly snatched it up to make another stack and whack quilt!

For more details see my blog. Thanks Karen!
