Tina's blocks

Well, I finally got back to my sewing room and was able to make Tina's blocks.  Loved the "short cut" trick that the tutorial offered...  Her center diagonal rows were dictated, but then we added her strips and our stash... Will get them off to you soon, Tina.

Bee Blocks for Tina

Super easy and fun to make.  Might copy your idea when it's my turn in February!

Block Lotto - November

November's block lotto is the Skinny churn dash. HoosierToni's pattern offers several variations so you can show off your stitching skills. You can pick any of the variations you'd like. Or better yet, don't pick. Make them all!

Whichever variation you make, we ask that you:
  • incorporate "made fabric" somewhere in the block
  • use "fall colors"
It was a really simple pattern, but I needed to trim the corner HSTs. Here are the samples Rachel and I made:

Have fun!

October Lucky Bee block for Tina

Interestingly enough, Tina asked for scrappy trip around the world blocks for the Lucky Bee this month.  She provided six of the twelve strips needed for two blocks and identified which fabric she wanted us to use for the diagonal.

Not surprisingly, I used a couple of my own green fabrics (go figure), as well as one of my favorite yellows.  I can't wait to see all of the blocks together.

Blocks for Diana's Golden Needle

In lieu of charity blocks this month, we decided at yesterday's meeting to make blocks for Diana's Golden Needle project (this is her Facebook page).

In short, Diana is a 15-year-old who was adopted from Russia at 14 months old.  In order to earn her Girl Scout Gold Award, she set a goal to make 16 quilts for kids who will age out of foster care in South Carolina.  She's already exceeded that goal (46 quilts donated already!), but she's committed to continuing to make and distribute as many quilts as she can until March 2017.  Click here to read a a May 2015 article about her project.

If you would like to make a block (or blocks) to send to Diana, click here to see the scrappy trip around the world pattern she's requested for the blocks.  Each requires just six strips of fabric 2-1/2" by 16" and they're fun to make (at least I think so).

Please bring any blocks you make to the November meeting and we'll send them off to her.

73 Pillowcases!!!

I can't thank you all enough!  73 pillowcases!  Maureen Wirth gets the prize making 49 of those herself! Ellen Yamaguchi made 12!  Each and every pillowcase is so greatly appreciated.  I will be delivery them to Christie on Monday.

I'll also be collecting them at the November meeting if anyone wants to make a few more.
